We are fortunate to have a thriving Eco Council, who under the guidance of Mrs Hart and Miss Fletcher, have worked tirelessly and enthusiastically to devise and promote a new and revised Eco-code throughout our school. Each Year, every class from Primary 4 to Primary 7 elect two representatives from their class to sit on the Eco-Council and share the views of all pupils. Pupils work with passion, pride, and the belief that together we can make our school a greener, healthier and happier place for everyone. The committee meet regularly, sometimes during break and lunch times but more recently during our after schools Eco club. This year the children are working with visions of tackling and improving the levels of school waste, the numbers of children and adults actively travelling to school, as well as promoting a healthier lifestyle for all in our wider school community. To date, the committee have been successful with drastically reducing our levels of non-recyclable/general waste in school. They did this by incorporating a waste free lunch rule. We are very grateful to all parents, children and staff who are actively helping us to reduce our school's carbon foot-print. Our committee are currently focusing on promoting the benefits of a healthy and balanced diet, they are doing this by running a competition that encourages everyone to eat healthy snacks at break time. Throughout the remainder of the year, our Eco-Council will continue, as they have been, to work alongside our SUSTRANS council to promote active travel, and to encourage a reduction in the number of those travelling to and from school in cars. They will do this by celebrating active travel, through being committed and setting a good example themselves, recognising and celebrating the efforts and success of others - by running various competitions, promoting the daily class mile and by also taking part in and assisting with designated active travel SUSTRANS events and work shops. Please remember our ECO – CODE! EAT WELL, TO KEEP WELL ACTIVE BODIES MAKE ACTIVE MINDS REUSE, TO REDUCE OUR WASTE THINK GREEN…DON’T BE MEAN HELP OUR SCHOOL, BE ECO-COOL!
