Eco Council

Eco Council

Our Eco Council are a committed bunch of key stage 1 and 2 children who work hard to be elected by their peers, to be a part of our vital team of councillors who help us all to follow our school Eco code.

The children meet regularly and work together with Miss Fletcher and Mrs Hart; their role includes planning assemblies, class presentations, running competitions and events to help our school to lower its carbon footprint and to help us ALL to be ECO COOL.

To date, they have been responsible for:

  • helping us to become a waste free school (all non-compostable and non-recyclable waste goes home)
  • use refillable water bottles (discourage single use plastics)
  • encouraging us to make smarter and healthier choices with our break time snacks
  • helping us to keep our school grounds clean and tidy

All of which has resulted in us obtaining our Eco school green flag award.

AT KNOCKBREDA PRIMARY SCHOOL, WE ARE PROUD TO BE ECO COOL!

TerraCycle ®

We’re proud to share that we’re taking part in TerraCycle®’s Green School Project and setting up a recycling hub at the school! The best part? Contributing to it helps our school raise funds and teach the importance of recycling to empower future generations to take action at no cost to you!

How it works

  • Students, staff and the local community of Knockbreda Primary School, can drop off their hard-to-recycle rubbish at our recycling point. Located in our school reception area.
  • Once we have a full box, we send it to TerraCycle® (using a free shipping label).
  • TerraCycle® awards us points that we can redeem for a monetary donation to the school.
  • If you’re interested to find out more about how TerraCycle® recycles your rubbish, click here!

Here’s what you can drop off:

  • Bread wrappers such as packaging from wraps, pancakes, bread
  • Biscuit pladis wrappers, from biscuits such as Jaffa Cakes, cake bars, crackers, Oreo, Penguins, Mc Vities

A couple of tips:

  • Start collecting accepted items in a box at home and bring it in once it’s full.
  • Please make sure only to drop off accepted items (listed above).
  • Items don’t have to be fully cleaned, but please remove product crumbs from packets.
  • Please drop your items into the correct bins.
  • Please note we can’t take chocolate bar wrappers – only biscuit wrappers. We look forward to recycling with you! The more you drop off, the more you help your school raise funds and help us empower future generations to take action
